CHIR Welcomes New Faculty

We are delighted to welcome a new faculty member to CHIR: Lena Shadow.

Lena Shadow is a Research Fellow at the Center on Health Insurance Reforms (CHIR) at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy. At CHIR, her research focuses on state-based marketplaces and private health insurance access, affordability, and adequacy.

Before joining CHIR, Lena worked with North Carolina Medicaid as part of her master’s project to develop sustainability strategies for the agency’s Healthy Opportunities Pilot — the first Medicaid waiver program of its kind to address social determinants of health. She also interned with the Margolis Institute for Health Policy at Duke University, where she worked on projects examining the impact of reproductive health policy changes for physicians, patients, and healthcare systems across 10 states. Her work from this research has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Lena received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Public Policy in Health Policy from Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
