What We Do
Older adults and people with disabilities rely on Medicare for their health insurance. But it’s a complex and costly program that can and should deliver better value to its beneficiaries and to the taxpayers who foot the bill.
The Medicare Policy Initiative provides evidence-based insights and policy solutions for strengthening Medicare. Our independent research and timely analysis guide federal and state policymakers in making common-sense reforms that deliver high quality, affordable coverage for seniors.
What We’re Working On
We’re shining a light on Medicare, taking an honest look at how traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans stack up, what is working and how the program can serve us better. We break down what really matters and what changes are needed, with an eye on:
Coverage:
Are consumers getting the benefits they need at the right price? How do we ensure that Medicare beneficiaries—those in traditional Medicare and those who choose Medicare Advantage plans—can access the care they need?
Cost:
What is driving up consumers and taxpayer spending? How can we get better value for money?
Choice:
Are the choices offered to Medicare beneficiaries sufficient and meaningful? How can we strengthen Medicare beneficiaries’ ability to navigate the complex choices between traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans?
